A team of six veterinarians from the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association Field Services (HSVMA-FS) sponsored by IFA concluded a week long training program in Jimma, Ethiopia on 1/24/2011. They were in Jimma, in southern Ethiopia training veterinarians of the faculty of veterinary medicine, Jimma on companion animal surgical procedures. The training was the first of its kind in Ethiopia and will be conducted yearly starting in January 2011.
The school of Veterinary Medicine is part of the College of Agriculture at Jimma University.
Jimma University (JU) is one of the top teaching universities in Ethiopia, and is located in Oromia Region, Jimma Zone. It offers programs and researches which lead toward degrees in different fields of studies. It was established in December 1999 with the amalgamation of the Jimma College of Agriculture (founded in 1952) and the Jimma Institute of Health Sciences (founded in 1983)
